FREE Mediation For Smaller Cases If You Can Act Quickly
A group of Chicago mediators who members of the Association of Attorney-Mediators, a national mediator organization, is again providing lawyers and their clients with a “Settlement Week” opportunity.
You read it right—FREE mediation, just this one time in the year.
About 30 attorney-mediators, mostly seasoned lawyers with significant mediation experience, and all certified by one of the Circuit Court mediation programs, are donating their time to help settle your case. The objective is to help with cases that need settling but could not otherwise afford mediation, although that judgment is yours to make. If your case needs settling, you can submit the case for mediation, no questions asked. Last year over 80% of the participating cases were resolved.
One twist on the program in Cook County this year
Rather than have to conduct the mediation during Settlement Week, you simply need to have agreement for mediation and select a mediator between June 1 and June 5. That entails registering the case with the administrator, Bob Berliner. I will be doing up to five mediations (one of which is already set, so actually four left) and it's first come, first-served for those four opportunities. Cases already filed or which could be filed are eligible, except family law, mortgage foreclosure and small claims.
If your field of practice is employment law, the list of mediators includes some other well-known employment lawyers, like Ralph Morris and Marc Siegel. There are attorney-mediators with a wide range of legal practice backgrounds, including commercial disputes, real estate, tort and professional liability.
This year’s program is co-sponsored or endorsed by a host of legal organizations, including the Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Lake County Bar Association, Will County Bar Association, Center for Conflict Resolution, Association for Conflict Resolution (Chicago Chapter), Decalogue Society of Lawyers, and Women’s Bar Association of Illinois.
To get started, just go to the website: All the information, including participating mediators, can be found there.
